Frequently Asked Questions:
What does βsecond-stage counsellingβ mean?
Second-stage counselling builds on initial emotional support (often offered through programs like Cytheraβs Stopping the Violence) by providing deeper, clinical-level therapeutic services. Elyra is designed for those who are ready to explore personal growth, healing, or trauma recovery with the guidance of a professional counsellor.
What is clinical counselling?
Clinical counselling is a structured form of talk therapy provided by trained, registered professionals. It focuses on helping individuals understand, cope with, and work through emotional, psychological, and behavioural challenges. Elyra counsellors use trauma-informed and evidence-based approaches to support your well-being.
How much does it cost?
$100 per session (GST included) with a Registered Clinical Counsellor
$50 per session with a Clinical Intern
We also support individuals accessing services through BC CVAP funding, and offer flexible options for those experiencing financial hardship.
What can I talk to a counsellor about?
Anything thatβs on your mind. Many clients seek support for:
Stress and anxiety
Relationship or family issues
Self-esteem or identity concerns
Grief and loss
Life transitions (e.g. parenting, career changes, separation/divorce)
Past trauma or difficult experiences
There is no issue too small or too complex to bring into the counselling space.
Do I need a referral?
No referral is needed. You can call us directly to book an appointment or to speak with someone about whether Elyra is the right fit for you.
Are your services confidential?
Yes. Your privacy is extremely important to us. All Elyra services are confidential, and you will have a chance to review and sign a confidentiality agreement before your first appointment.
