Our Bernice Gehring affordable long-term living spaces offer 20 units for women and self-identifying women, both individuals and families, who have experienced or are at risk of gender-based violence and abuse.

In partnership with BC Housing, this space provides more than just walls and a roof. It offers peace of mind, belonging, and the foundation to create a life rooted in safety, independence, and care.

About Our Affordable Suites

Our affordable long-term housing program in Maple Ridge includes a mix of studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom units, including wheelchair-accessible suites. Each suite is self-contained, with access to shared laundry and amenity spaces designed for connection and comfort.

Unlike our Second Stage Housing, which includes structured programs and staff support for up to 18 months, Bernice Gehring House is a permanent housing option, offering stability without time limits.

An on-site Assistant Property Manager is available to provide support with building maintenance and ensuring smooth day-to-day operations, while residents maintain full independence in their daily lives.

This home is designed for women ready to take the next step toward lasting independence in a setting that honours privacy, dignity, and choice.

Bernice Gehring Long-Term Housing welcomes:

Our goal is to create a place where safety and belonging come first, where every resident can rebuild at their own pace, surrounded by respect and understanding.

Residents can expect:

  • Affordable rents geared to income or supported through income assistance

  • Private, self-contained units that offer long-term comfort and independence

  • On-site Assistant Property Manager to assist with day-to-day building maintenance

  • Accessible suites for individuals with mobility needs

  • Shared laundry facilities on every floor

  • A shared six-floor balcony for fresh air and moments of connection

  • A gated outdoor parking lot for security and convenience

This housing community was created to be a steady, empowering home base - a place where women and their children can plant roots, find peace, and move forward with confidence.

  3. Please note that applications are reviewed as spaces arise, and forms remain on file for one year.

Where can I park?

There is a secure, gated parking lot available on site for residents. It’s designed to offer both convenience and peace of mind.

Do the suites have patios attached?

Individual suites do not have private patios, but residents can enjoy a shared rooftop patio on the sixth floor. It’s a lovely space that is perfect for getting some fresh air, relaxing, or connecting with neighbours.

Are pets allowed?

Unfortunately, the Bernice Gehring building is not pet-friendly at this time. We understand how meaningful the companionship of animals can be, and we’re always mindful of creating a safe, inclusive environment for all residents.

Is there laundry?

Yes! Each floor includes a shared laundry room for residents’ use, offering easy access to washers and dryers without having to leave the building.
